About squirrels in Central Florida
Eastern gray squirrels are the dominant attic invader in Winter Park, College Park, Baldwin Park, Maitland and any Central Florida neighborhood with a mature oak canopy. Flying squirrels are less common but do occur, particularly in older Orlando neighborhoods with heavily wooded lots.
How to identify squirrels
- Gray body, bushy tail, 8–10 inches without tail
- Daytime scampering and rolling in the attic
- Chewed soffit corners and lifted roof vents
- Nesting material stuffed into attic corners
Seasonal activity
Two litters per year in Central Florida — late winter and late summer. Expect juvenile activity in February–March and August–September.
